Beauty | Yours Truly Organics Review*

I had a perfect start to the morning last weekend,  I woke up really early (before 7 thanks to Mr C!) and took the opportunity to have a little pamper time. I haven't had some me time for a few months so this was much needed. As Mr C was still snoring away, what better way to make use of a quiet hour or two?

I started off with a long hot shower, weekday mornings usually consist of me literally rolling out of bed and going for a very quick shower to wake me up. So, for a change I took my time and it felt so good!

I 've been using Sanex on and off for a couple of years now and I would highly recommend it.  The scrub of you life is definitely my favourite body scrub, a little goes a long way. I tend to use a bit extra on my legs to get them super smooth and plough away all the dead skin.

Next up I used an old favourite, the Schwarzkopf Gliss total repair shampoo. I use this occasionally when my hair gets super dry. I purchase it from Poundland, for something cheap and cheerful it works really well. Then I used this L'Oreal conditioner and left it on for around 10 minutes, yes, I had a good long hot shower!

I'm currently trying to decide which face wash to use next. I've recently finished my Soap & Glory Peaches and Cream but now can't decide whether to go for Elemis or La Roche-Posay.
I remembered that I had these* samples that I got from the Bloggers Love Hub event that I went to last November and decided it was a good time to try them out!
I must admit I had never heard of the brand before so I was pleased to get some samples to try.
The cleanser has a really pleasant smell to it, definitely lemon with a hint of sandalwood as mentioned on the packet. It came out as quite a runny gel, I'm used to something more thick. So when I poured this into my hands it went everywhere! It did leave my skin feeling really clean without that horrible tight feeling that you can get with some face washes.
I woke Mr C up from his lay-in to take these photo's - nice of me wasn't it!
The balancing toner was my least favourite item. I didn't really feel like it made much of a difference to my skin at all, but to be fair, I don't really use toners so I don't have anything to compare it with.

Last of all I used the repairing serum, this product for me was the stand out item. Again, it was difficult to use out of the packet and I had too much, luckily Mr C was there so I managed to talk him in to trying some too! Because I had so much on my face it took a few minutes to rub it all in, but once I had finished, my skin felt so good that I went without moisturiser and my skin was still soft by the end of the day. This is one product I would definitely purchase.
Mr C then went back to bed, clearly traumatised by me putting a skincare product on his face, he doesn't normally do skincare at all.
I also managed to paint my nails, watch some YouTube and read a magazine in between all of this!

We then went out for breakfast and had a lovely day, making the most of a rare sunny Saturday!

Garden | Hello Spring!

Wednesday, 25 February 2015 | 1 comment

Spring is almost here, finally, and I am pretty happy about this. As much as I like cuddling up inside with Mr C, with a cup of hot chocolate, I can't wait for longer evenings, the sight of daffodils and taking blog photos outside in the garden again!

In the meantime I have purchased a few things to brighten up inside and outside the home.

I always buy my flowers from Aldi because they seem to last for weeks! I usually pop some lemonade or some sugar in after a week to keep them fresh and pop them in a simple vase in the hallway to add a pop of colour.

I also got these cute little fake plants from Dunelm as I couldn't find any real ones that would be small enough to fit on the window sill. They were £1.99 each and add a nice contrast to the bright flowers next to them.

We only have a couple of wall lights at the back of the house and, because we have no street lights, any ways that we can find to brighten up the garden is useful.

These lovely solar ice tower lights* are a great addition to the back garden. I usually get cheap and cheerful solar lights from Poundland, they are good but not as bright as these ones. The stainless steel make these ones feel really durable and long lasting for all year round. The tops are made from frosted glass which makes them quite heavy but once they are in the ground they are solid, not moving anywhere!

Night time!

I also got these great bulb planters from Lidl, I wrote about these last year and I was really pleased to see them in store again. They are so easy to plant, just dig a hole big enough, take off the lid and pop the base with the bulbs in the ground and cover! It takes around 6 weeks or so for the flowers to bloom but they are really pretty so it makes the wait worthwhile!

Are you looking forward to Spring?

Lifestyle | One Lovely Saturday

Monday, 23 February 2015 | 3 comments

On Saturday I did something that I hadn't done for awhile....I woke up early! Thanks to Mr C forgetting to turn off the alarm clock I was wide awake by 6.30. Normally on a Saturday I have a lay in until around 9.00am. So rather than going back to sleep I lay there thinking and getting my thoughts together, Friday was a pretty rubbish day, I got some unexpected news at the end of the day which wasn't great but reminded me to be thankful for a lot of things in my life.

Around 7.15 I got up and decided to have a nice long shower, give my face a good cleanse and have a little pamper time! I will be doing a blog post on this because there are some products which I'm really loving at the moment.

We had no milk or bread in the house so I persuaded Mr C to take me out for breakfast!

After breakfast we stopped in the local town for a wander around, there are no clothes shops so there was no new purchases for me!

On the way home we stopped to take some photos. I kept it quite casual as I knew that we were going to do quite a bit of walking.

I'm still in love with these jeans from New Look, they are really comfortable and because of the high waist they sit really nicely over my bum shelf!

Cardigan - Gap
Vest Top - Asda
Hat - H&M
Jeans - *New Look
Trainers - Converse
Scarf - Topsy Curvy
Mr C wanted to get in on the OOTD action so here he is!
Jacket - TK Maxx
Jeans - Gap
Trainers - Nike Outlet
Once we got home the sun was still out so I made the most of it and took lots of blog photos. Then it was film and fajita night. We watched Bad Neighbours, has anyone else seen it?
I hope you had a nice Saturday!

Review | Elemis Fresh Skin

Friday, 20 February 2015 | No comments

For me, whenever I have a trip to TK Maxx I rarely come away empty handed. I don't know what it is about the store but it seems like everywhere I look there is always something to entice me and help me part with my pennies!
Last year I picked up this Elemis skincare kit. I had never seen anything from Elemis in my local TK Maxx before so I was quite excited when I saw this. I really like the products, especially when I go for facials or massages. I literally picked this up and ran (ok, fast walked) to the till and parted with £7.99 (I think!).

Now, if I read the packaging properly before rushing off to pay I would have found out that this is actually a beginners skincare kit for teens - early 20s. Now, let's not pretend here, I'm clearly a few years past this age bracket (sob sob). I didn't let this deter me though and I still gave it a try.
So far I've tried the purifying face wash and the moisturiser and they are both ok. I found the facewash a little harsh as it ended up leaving my skin quite dry the first time I used it. The moisturiser left my skin nice and matte to begin with but, after an hour or so, I was back to my shiny face!

I wouldn't use it as part of a daily skincare regime so I've decided use it in my travel bag. I know that all the items will definitely get used up as we have a few weekends away planned over the next few months.
Lesson learned - always read the labels!
Have you tried any Elemis products?

Simply Be | Birthday Buy

Wednesday, 18 February 2015 | 4 comments

It has been quite a while since I last purchased anything from Simply Be, in fact I think it was this dress which was from last year! I can't wait to wear it again once the weather warms up.
So, when an email popped into my inbox on the morning of my birthday at the beginning of February with a discount code I thought it would be a good time to see what was new on the site.
One of the first items to catch my eye was this pretty green and black dress.

It's definitely not the sort of thing I would normally go for, I was looking for something quite plain and simple to wear to work but then I saw this and I soon changed my mind! The dress is made from a lovely soft jersey material, perfect for when the weather gets warmer. But, in the mean time, it still works really well paired up with a cosy cardigan and tights.

The cut out at the front adds a nice detail to the dress and it doesn't sit too low. So if, like me, your not comfortable with showing cleavage then you don't have to worry. I went for a size 24 in the dress, I could have sized down into a 22 but I always prefer having a little bit of room.

I also purchased another dress so watch out for that review coming soon!

My Little Box | Review

Monday, 16 February 2015 | 1 comment

I was super excited when the next My Little Box landed on my door step, well technically my work doorstep. I knew that it was on it's way as they send an email to you so you know that it's on it's way!
One thing I love about this box is that if you get it delivered to a work address then you get a little discount which means no trips to the post office!
This month's box was called ''My Little Frenchie" Box and was a collaboration with Ines de La Fressange.

Again the box didn't disappoint, full of lovely treats of makeup and lifestyle pieces.

The case fits my phone perfectly and I will be using this, even though I have a cover I always worry that the screen might get scratched!

I had just run out of eyebrow gel so this was perfect timing, I tried it on quickly to see how felt and I was already impressed even after half an hour I didn't get that horrible dry rock hard feeling, which is what happens when I use the Maybelline Eyebrow gel.

When I first saw the cream my first reaction was 'oh no' but after trying it on it blends in really well. I don't know if it did enhance my complexion as it was quite late in the evening so I will be giving it another try at the weekend!

The picture doesn't show the true colour of this eyeliner but it's black with a bronze shimmer through it, I'm looking forward to trying this out.

Overall I'm really happy with box. I know that I will definitely use all of the items, there is nothing more disappointing than when you pay for some boxes and you can't use all of the products.

If you want to try one for yourself head on over to the My Little Box website.

Mr C Talks about | Love

Saturday, 14 February 2015 | 1 comment

Last November Mr C and I celebrated our 8 year anniversary! I honestly can't believe it and sometimes find it hard to believe that I managed to find a man.

Finding love was something that I never thought would happen to me. Years of self loathing and an extreme lack of confidence made me believe that I would be single forever. I then got it into my head that if I lost weight I would feel better about myself, feel happier and find Prince Charming. The weight came off, I did feel better but rather than finding Prince Charming, I found Prince Put Me Down. Nothing I did was good enough, I was boring (according to him) and still fat even at a size 12/14. My hopes of finding the perfect relationship came crashing down around me and I was left feeling like how all people think fat woman in a relationship should feel - grateful that a man wants you.

After being un-ceremoniously dumped via text, yes, you read right, a crappy "it's me not you" text, I told myself to stay away from men and work on loving myself. Then Mr C came along, it was hard at first, someone so nice treating me right, I thought that this was too good to be true!

8 years later and we're still going strong and looking forward to the next 8,20,40 years together! (Fingers crossed!)

If you are still waiting for Mr Right to come along, be patient, he will arrive probably when you least expect it!
Mr C says:
One of the things that has helped my relationship with Natalie is that I too had suffered from similar issues in my previous relationships. We are very similar in a lot of ways, but also have some big differences which is a good thing.
A true story for you. After our first date, I went home afterwards feeling pretty damn good about myself. I walked in to my parents house where I was living and must have had a huge grin on my face as the first thing my dad said tome was "judging by the look on your face, it went well!". Well, my reply to that was, in no simple terms that as far as I was concerned I had found the person for me. Even after just a few hours with her shopping in Central MK and then having a meal, I can honestly say that I knew. It was as simple as that for me. 10 months later I relocated so that we could move in together and stay near her family. 1 month later and 11 months after our first date, after secretly getting her parents permission and approval, I proposed (not in the most romantic way unfortunately - but that is a whole other story). The rest, as they say, is history.
We have had many, many, many ups and downs, that would test the bond between any couple. It is a testament to the fact that we are not only partners but, most importantly, best friends that we always seem to be able to stick together and come out the other end of whatever challenge is thrown at us. We argue, but can never stay angry at each other very long.
You can never know where life is going to take you. There is a great lyric from a Phil Collins song that goes "wouldn't you agree, baby you and me, got a groovy kind of love". That, for me, sums up me and Natalie in my eyes.
Mr C.
Happy Valentines Day.
Remember loving yourself is just as important as loving someone else

Review | Caught Short

Friday, 13 February 2015 | No comments

So, I was a little surprised when this package popped through my letterbox!
Caught Short* knickers come in a slim re-usable package that can be slipped into your handbag and ready to use when you need a pair!
Personally I think it's a great idea, a few years ago when I was ill and having to be taken to hospital without any notice these would have come in handy as quick way to freshen up until someone came back with a bag of clothes for me.
They come in 3 colours, black, white and ecru, 4 sizes S, M, L & XL and are priced £7.50 per pair. You can find them on the website here.
Perhaps a caught short kit might be a good idea?

In the Sale

Wednesday, 11 February 2015 | 1 comment

I was trying to be so good and not do any shopping for a few weeks but sometimes the temptation is just too much!
Mr C and I went for a quick wander around our local town not long after Christmas. I thought that I would have a quick look in the New Look store there, it's quite a fair size so imagine my surprise when I saw the Inspire range was still in there, right at the back in the corner like a naughty child but still there!

I spotted this jacket and loved it straight away. I never usually go for bright colour jackets so this was a nice change. The jacket is a soft crepe fabric and is a really good length. It's definitely one of those items that can work for day and night.

Jacket - New Look
Tunic/Dress - Forever 21
Jeans -Yours Clothing - No longer available

Review | Kiko Make Up

Monday, 9 February 2015 | No comments

Back in November I thought that I would take a trip to the Kiko store whilst I was London. I think I first heard of the brand whilst I was watching an Essie Button video on YouTube.
The store itself is small and at 17.30 in the evening it was very very busy, even though it was cold outside I managed to develop a few beads of sweat within a few minutes of entering the store.
I had a quick look around the lip section and gave the rest of the shop a miss when I realised that I would have to go downstairs, I was already hot and bothered after being in London for most of the afternoon.
These are the products that I bought

This lipstick caught my eye immeadialty, I have no idea why! Maybe it was the sparkly or the unusal colour. Anyway it's not as scary as it looks, a quick swatch on my hand in the store confirmed that.

It's actually a really nice light purple colour with lots of sparkle, definitley perfect for a night out. Unfortunately the colour on it's own makes me look washed out so I have wear a dark lip colour and then add a bit of this over the top to get a colour I'm happy with.
Next up was this lip gloss pencil. I have never come across a lip pencil that is also a gloss so I had to give that a try. This is another purple but slightly darker than the lipstick above, it had a slight sheen to it without having that sticky gloss feel. The staying power isn't so great, I do have to keep re applying it but for colour that I think really suits me I'm happy to do that.

The final item is my least favourite. Its the long lasting lip marker in red. When I swatched this in store one of the store assistants came up to me and told me to wipe it off straight away or I would be left with a mark all evening, she was right, the stain stayed all night. I wore it last weekend to test it out.
First of all it's very strange to apply, I did one stroke on my lips and it came out all smudged and blotchy. It also feels very much like you are drawing with a felt tip on your lips, the same feeling as when you did it at a young age!
Within 10 minutes of wearing it my lips felt so dry, to try and combat this I had to dab a small amount of Vaseline over the top before they turned to sandpaper. After 4 hours, more Vaseline and then lunch, I had to wipe it off, though most of it had come off anyway. I don't want it to go to waste so I'm going to use it under my favourite red Rimmal lipstick.

Have you tried any products from this brand?

6 Trends with New Look

Friday, 6 February 2015 | No comments

It may well be cold and frosty outside but Spring is definitely on my mind. I'm ready to put away the jacket, jumpers, gloves and 2 pairs of socks that have become part of my daily uniform.
Spring trends are also on my mind at the moment. New Look have 6 trends to define your spring: Denim, Spoken Word, Stripes, Aquamarine, 70's and Power Trouser.
Two of my favourites from the six are denim and spoken word. I hve been a fan of Inspire jeans for quite a few years now, these are the ones that I normally wear. Bootcut and straight leg jeans have always been my go to choice so when I had opportunity to review some items from the new range at New Look I choose these high waisted skinny jeans*and this spoken word t-shirt*.

I am really impressed with the jeans. I've worn them 3 times since receving them so that I could give a really good review here. I don't know about anyone else but I really struggle to find jeans that fit well, the only other brand that I purchase any from is Yours Clothing. I wore them all day on the Saturday just gone, shopping and then eating and they were so comfortable. I could have gone down a size but I'm not a fan of tight jeans. The high waist is the best for me, I didn't have to wear a belt and they didn't slip down once!

The T-Shirt is something that is out of my comfort zone, I normally just wear plain ones so it was nice to try something different. Paired with the jeans, oversized cardigan and my converse I thought that it made a really nice casual outfit for the weekend.
What is your favourite trend for Spring 2015?

From The Tumblr Archives | The Make Up Drawer - Face

Wednesday, 4 February 2015 | No comments

When I first started blogging I wasn't sure which platform to use so I started on Tumblr, I never really got the hang of it and still have no idea now! Anyway one of the first posts I wrote was about my makeup collection. It was very short as I didn't have that much make up back then, BB (before blogging!)
I thought it would be nice to do an updated post but instead of doing one huge long post I have decided to spilt it over a few posts.

First up concealers. I'm not going to go into detail about each one but I will tell you that my favourite one at the moment is the Maybelline Fit Me concealer (on the right). I put a bit under my eyes and on my blemishes and that's it. I'll be doing a review of the Bobbi Brown items so keep an eye out for that.

The Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse has now become a firm favourite of mine, my sister hasn't realised it's missing from her collection so I think I got away with that one!

These are some items that I don't use very often, the loose powder from Lola I use to set my make up if I'm going out for the evening, the blusher I haven't used for a few months, another forgotten item and the bronzing powder is a must have for me when the winter comes, although some people think why does a black girl need bronzer, I can assure you I do, just to add a little glow especially when I'm ill.

If you have a make-up collection post leave a link for me to read or let me know what you favourite concealer or foundation is?
