Style | Mr C Holiday Staples

Tuesday, 30 June 2015 | No comments

Hi!

After updating my holiday wardrobe we also decided Mr C needed a few new pieces to get him holiday ready!

We thought that it would be so easy to find clothes for him but it turned out to be a bit of a challenge this time. Most summer items seem to be aimed towards younger men, some of the vest tops that Mr C tried on just didn't suit him at all. We did however manage to find a few things so scroll down to see what he got!

Sleevless T-Shirt - These were tucked right in the back corner of the H&M menswear with the rest of the basics. They were an excellent find, Mr C went for an X-Large and a large. The XL is quite big on him so it's perfect for a really casual look by the pool or going to the beach.

One item we didn't really struggle with were shorts. The flower print ones are from gap and are swim shorts. These were from the Gap outlet but if your partner / husband or any male that you know is around a 36inch waist I would highly recommend going to Gap for shorts. The other pairs are from TK Maxx, they also do a great selection for 36/38inch waists.

The shoes were something that we umm and ahhed over for quite a while, it's not something that he would normally wear but Mr C wanted something casual and smart that he could wear in the evenings or for wandering around in during the day. These ones are from M&S but New Look also had great casual holiday shoes.

Finally some casual items, these are perfect for throwing on when you are off to the pool or going down for breakfast. These were all from Sports Direct and were very reasonably priced.

That's all of Mr C holiday staples. Keep an eye out in a few weeks where he will be making an appearance actually wearing the clothes!

Lifestyle | Hello Oxford

Tuesday, 23 June 2015 | 2 comments

A few Sundays ago I met up with some other bloggers for a day out in Oxford. Once again I was my usual nervous self in the morning before we met up but once I was out in the glorious sunshine any fears soon went away!

I met Hanna first by Carfax Tower in the centre of Oxford. I hadn't been in the centre of Oxford for a few years now and had forgotten what a beautiful city it is.

Next we were joined by Charlotte, Becky and Mookie and a little later Patty joined us as well. Our first stop was Primark, now seeing as I had been there a few weeks earlier I told myself to be good and not buy anything! Of course that did not happen, a quick look at some cute head scarfs and shoes I was drawn in that deep Primark black hole!

After we all parted with some cash in Primark we then headed to All Bar One for some lunch, I would definitely recommend this as a place to eat if you ever visit Oxford, my burger and chips were super tasty!

It was then time for Hanna to meet her family and then head back to Finland so, we said goodbye to her and headed on down to Christchurch College. I had never been here before so was pleasantly surprised to see how lovely it was.  As we sat on the grass, chatted and enjoyed the summer warmth, I sat back for a few minutes and thought how lucky I was to be sitting here enjoying the day with some wonderful ladies that I met through blogging. To find like minded woman that I can chat to and that understand the perils of chub rub or finding a decent pair of jeans means a lot to me. For years I had felt alone even though I had lots of friends they were all slim, shopping trips were difficult as we would only go into River Island or Topshop, every time I would buy the same thing, jewellery or a handbag, as I had around 50 bags this happened quite a lot!

We then started to make our way back to town, once again to say goodbye to a few people and then I stopped in Itsu with Patty to pick up some sushi before Mr C came to pick me up! It was a fantastic day, I can't wait to do it again!

From The Makeup Drawer | Nails

Thursday, 18 June 2015 | 1 comment

Hi!

I'm so lazy when it comes to painting my nails. I used to do it all the time, mostly when I lived at home, the days when I didn't have to wash up and clean every day! Mr C bought a gel nail kit for me last Christmas as he knows how pleased I am with the longevity of them but I still have quite a few regular polishes that I need to use so that they don't go to waste!

I do love a nails inc polish, I don't think that I have ever purchased one from a store, I'm a cheapskate and wait to get them free (well, kind of!) when I buy magazines. These are definitely my winter polishes, in the summer I prefer to opt for a French polish or pinks and reds.

These are some of my least favourites. I know a lot of people rave about the Essie polishes but for me they didn't really work. The application was excellent, nice and smooth, two coats and I was done but after taking the red one off I noticed that my nails were quite stained even with a base coat one, a real disappointment for me.

These items are ones that I use when I'm doing my nails. The nails polish remover pads are the best ones I've tried, they don't leave my nails feeling dry and are nice and compact for when I'm going away for a weekend. The Sally Hansen base and top coat is the only one I will use and have done for many years, one coat makes my polish last for around 5-6 days, as long as I remember to wear my marigolds!

Review | Kate Spade Bag

Tuesday, 16 June 2015 | 5 comments

Hi!

For one of my Christmas presents last year, Mr C kindly brought me a lovely Kate Spade handbag. Along with jewellery, bags are my favourite things to buy and I now have quite the collection that has grown over the years.

I wanted to do a review of the bag for anyone that might want to purchase one. I always like to have a look around for reviews on handbags that I am going to purchase, especially the ones that are slightly more pricey.

First of all the bag comes in a lovely dustbag. I always keep my handbags inside their dustbags when not in use, it definitely helps protect the leather. The Kate Spade bags also have a lovely little quote on them.

The actual bag is leather with gold hardware. The leather is lovely, very soft and supple. I always protect my leather bags with leather cream. I just rub on with a cloth to keep them soft and stop them getting ruined in the usual UK bad weather and also to make them generally last longer.

Inside there are 3 pockets, one large zipped and two small open ones. There is just enough space to put a few bits of makeup, my phone and keys. I try not to put too much stuff in the bag, it really can ruin the shape. There is also a little zip compartment at the top. This is not a bag that can be overfilled as there is only a magnetic clasp, if it's too full it can pop open. I only tend to take this bag out in the evenings or when I know that I won't be out all day and not taking everything but the kitchen sink with me!

The handle is also detachable so it turns into a clutch bag, which is perfect for evenings out. This will also come in handy on holidays. I have only worn it as a cross body so far, it sits just on my hip and is really comfortable. I hate it when you have a bag like this and it digs into your shoulder, I don't want to be in pain whilst shopping!

I love this bag, much more than my first Kate Spade one which I will do a review on soon. This one is so versatile and I will definitely get lots of use of it!

Our next theme is Short(s), feel free to use your imagination for this one and I can't wait to see what you all come up with.

First of all I have to apologise for missing the previous OMCZ challenge, it was the first time that it actually defeated me! I took some pictures but wasn't happy showing my tum so they were swiftly deleted and I never got time to re-do them again!

As I purchased some new shorts recently for the summer I thought the OMCZ challenge would be the perfect time to show them!

Hat - h&m

Don't forget to check out the other lovely ladies taking part!

Hi!

I'm having a break today and this cheeky chap is taking my place! Whilst we were out and about a few weeks ago Mr C asked me to take some photos of him to put on the blog. He really liked his outfit that day so I was happy to oblige in a spot of photo taking!

Mr C loves getting any new additions for his wardrobe from Gap, everything in these photo's, minus the trainers, are from Gap. If your husband/partner is a plus size then I would highly recommend a trip to Gap for them, especially the retail outlets. The sizing is generous, Mr C is a 38 waist jean but the ones he is wearing are a 36 waist. He also finds that the t-shirts, polos and sweatshirts/hoodies are comfortable and last for a long time. He literally lives in their jeans outside of work!

Beauty | Buxom Review

Thursday, 11 June 2015 | No comments

Hi!

My sister knows me so well, on her recent travels to the USA she picked me up this lip gloss as she knows how much I love a good lip product!

I had never heard of the brand Buxom until she got this gloss for me. From what I can tell it appears to be only available exclusively in Sephora in the US. There is an array of colours on the website, I know that if I had to choose whilst standing in Sephora it would have been a very long wait!

All the glosses have female names, my sister saw the 'Natalie' and got it for me. I was happy to see it was red, one of my favourite lip colours. However, even though it appears really bright  in the tube, it's more of like a hint of red. It's great as I like a subtle wash of colour for the day but I would also use it over my favourite matt lipsticks.

Another thing about the gloss is that it is a lip plumper. I'm not a fan of these types of glosses at all, it's not quite as tingly as the Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker which feels like I've rubbed my lips with a millions polo mints, this is more like the effect of a Polo Mint rubbed over the lips. Despite that it gives a really nice sheen to the lips, not too sticky and long lasting as long you don't eat, drink or kiss!

You can take a look at the products on Sephora here and buy them from Amazon here.

Have you ever tried anything from the Buxom range?

Lifestyle| A sunny sunday

Hi!

After being stuck in the office all week it's nice to get out and about at the weekend. One thing Mr C and I love doing is just driving and finding random places to visit, we discovered there are some really lovely places to see and not too far away either.

Looking at new plants for the garden, I didn't come away empty handed! I'm wearing my coatigan from New Look, honestly until it gets really really hot I'm going to be wearing this non stop!

I love this garden centre, they even allow their spaniels to roam around and the view is beautiful!

Then we found this gorgeous scenery on the way home, I could have sat here for hours, it was so relaxing.

Style | A very small Primark Haul!

Saturday, 6 June 2015 | 2 comments

Hi!

I popped into Primark at the weekend. It had been a while since I went in there, I don't have one that is close by, the nearest one is over a half hour drive away.

I wanted to get some flats for holiday but didn't want to spend too much. The striped pair were £4 and the plain ones were £3. These will be ideal to wear during the day with shorts, a denim dress or at night with a nice maxi, just a few ideas!

This hairband was too cute to resist, my reasoning to Mr C for it was that I will need to keep my hair off my face when I get too hot. I wore it on Sunday around the house and loved it, I think it will be worn before I go on holiday!

I also just got a string of  'pearls' just as an addition to evening outfits. I don't want to take too much jewellery with me and I feel like this will go with quite a few outfits.

Have you bought anything new from Primark recently?

Hi!

I've been looking for a white/cream shirt for quite a long time now. I used to wear them all them time and then I got a better fitting bra, now I can't wear any!

When New Look had their sale on I saw this and thought I would give it a go. I decided to go for a 22 to make sure there was enough room across my chest. Unfortunately it doesn't fit that well over the chest but, as it's the perfect length, colour and it's comfortable, I'm still going to wear it!

I decided that I wasn't comfortable enough to go without anything under the shirt as it's sheer so I wore an old gold vest top.

Shirt - New Look
Jeans - Simply Be
Shoes - H&M (old)
Scarf - Primark (Old)
Gold Vest (under shirt) - New Look (Old)
Bag - Kate Spade
