Beauty | Current Skincare Routine

Saturday, 20 February 2016 | No comments

Hi!

Welcome back to week 3 of my collab with Lottie. You can see her posts here and my previous ones make-up favourites and favourite hair care.

I'm one of those people that likes to change their skincare every couple of months, unless I find something really good. I've been using the La Roche-Posay facewash and effaclar duo+ for quite a while now. It has definitely made a vast improvement on my skin, less oily and spots are very few and far between.

I'm still quite lazy when it comes to looking after my skin so I don't use these every day! Most days I only use the facewash or just splash my face with cold water.

On an evening I tend to use the Garnier micellar water to do a quick cleanse. If it still doesn't feel clean enough then I use my La Roche-Posay cleanser again. This elemis night cream is so good, light and sinks into my skin with ease, after using it for a few weeks my skin feels smoother and brighter in the morning. I use the gel mask every 2-3 weeks, it tingles slightly when you first put it on but then that disappears to leave a cooling effect on the skin, after taking it off once again I'm left with brighter looking skin, I don't know about the anti-aging but maybe that takes longer to work!

Don't forget to check out Lotties post as well!

Lifestyle | Reasons why I blog

Thursday, 18 February 2016 | 1 comment

Hi!

So, here I am now going into my third year of blogging. It's been fun but not without some difficult times thrown in. I also never thought I would get here, I'm not very good at sticking to a hobby, crocheting - gone, knitting - anyone want to buy some wool, crafting- yeah, lets forget about that!

So, why do I enjoy blogging still? Here are the reasons:

1. New Skills

I've set up a blog, learnt how to adjust coding, edit photos and done some video editing on YouTube, phew. There have been times when I've tried to do something and ended up crying in frustration - but I have persevered, this year I'm ready to take it further and learn even more!

2. Gaining Confidence

I've come a long way in my confidence journey, going to events on my own has definitely pushed me outside of my comfort zone. Before I started blogging it's something that I never thought I would do, I rarely did much alone, but now I'm getting more comfortable with going out alone. As a part of my goals I'm going to work on my social skills, I want to talk to people more at events and not just be the smiley one but the friendly one too!

3. Wardrobe Confidence

There was one point in my life where I only wore black trousers, and a nice top. The weekend would come and oh, out come some black trousers, different to my work ones but still black. I couldn't find jeans to fit and dresses, well they were for a special occasion only. I've definitely come a long way from there but I still feel like I want to find my own personal style, will 2016 be the year that I do?

4.  Travel/Meeting People

I have been to London so many times since I started blogging and during 2014 I went on my own three times! Now this might not be a big deal for some people but for me it was huge, apart from getting lost the first time in which I ended up panicking and crying in the middle of a busy street, my map reading is awful! This year I'm hoping to go to more places and meet more lovely PS bloggers!

5. The Hobby

Blogging is definitely the right hobby for me, the fact that I've kept up with it for this long is a miracle, as I said at the beginning I usually start a new hobby and within weeks I've given it up!

What is your favourite thing about blogging?

Style | Mr C is here

Tuesday, 16 February 2016 | 1 comment

Hi!

Yes, sorry, it is me again. I have been reading all of Natalie's OOTD posts and thought I would get in on the act. The below is a slight departure for me - my usual weekend attire usually consists of a football shirt, blue jeans, trainers and a hoodie. I have never been a follower of fashion, but have recently decided to change my style a bit to a more "mature" look. Below is the result of my first attempt!

Apologies for the poor posing, modelling is never going to be in my future!

My standard stance whenever I am waiting around (usually for Natalie while she is looking at something in a shop) and trying to be casual about it.

Just making sure the shoes are clean!

A major departure for me - not just shoes instead of trainers, but RED shoes - way outside my comfort zone and something I would never had tried on if Natalie hadn't said to. The lady has taste!

Outfit:
Jumper - Ralph Lauren
T-Shirt - Primark
Jeans - GAP
Shoes - Cobbled from Schuh
Watch - Citizen Ecodrive

Thanks for reading!

Beauty | Hair Care Favourites

Saturday, 13 February 2016 | No comments

Hi!

Today is the second instalment of my collab with Lottie, you can read her first post here.

I have quite hair care favourites at the moment. I haven't relaxed my hair for over 3 months and it's quite unruly at the moment so, until I get it sorted out, here is what I've been using to try and control it!

I ran out of my favourite hair treatment, H'suan wen hua from Lush before Christmas and I really noticed a difference with my hair, it got dry again so, as soon as I got near a Lush store I had to stock up. It is my favourite hair treatment ever, if you have super dry, coarse hair then give this a go. To wash it out I use the Schwarzkopf shampoo, its from the pound shop and I have been using it for years, it smells so good and it leaves my hair feeling soft and not so knotty.

When I discovered Palmers did a hair care range I was like, hmm I need to try this, that was over a  year ago and I'm still loving it now. It has made such a difference to the condition of my hair and helped with it's growth. I'm not sure if I have mentioned this before but I have about a 3 inch patch of hair that doesn't grow thanks to a dodgy relaxer many, many years ago. I think that was the last time I went to a salon to get my hair done, my lovely mum does my hair at home now, thanks Mum!

I use the spray oil on wet hair before I dry it and it just adds some much needed moisture into my hair without being too greasy or oily. I also spray it on my scalp a few days before I wash my hair and massage it in to get the blood flowing and hopefully help my hair growth!

The Denman brush, worth all of the £8 I spent on it, glides through my mane like skis on snow! The bristles are quite long and made of a sturdy plastic so, if you have thick hair this is ideal, I can't tell you how many times I've broken a hairbrush whilst trying to get it through my hair!

I don't really use straighteners that much but as I'm having a break from relaxing my hair these are getting a lot of use at the moment. I was always loyal to using my GHDs, but after my last set packed up I decided they were too expensive to re-purchase. I decided to try and find some other ones just as good. These Tresemme ones were from Superdrug and were around £30. I'm never a fan of hair care items with so called built in conditioners etc but I have been pleasantly surprised by these. I dry my hair, spray on some oil, then a small amount of the heat protector and then straighten in small sections all over my head, I then pop on some of my palmers gro therapy and just run the straighteners through again. This lasts all week for me which is perfect!

Skincare | Pumice Power

Friday, 12 February 2016 | No comments

Hi!

I have to say I'm fully aboard the Lush train at the moment. I never used to be a fan of the products, I remember throwing a box of bath bombs I received as a gift in the bin (this was quite a few years ago) because the combo of the smells made me feel nauseous!

Fast forward a few years and I've got caught up in all the hype! Recently I picked up a few new items all of which I will be reviewing over the next few weeks. First up is this foot scrub.

I'm still on the quest for a really good scrub for my feet, I've lost count of how many products I've tried. I've found a really good cream, soap and glory foot scream, works a treat on really dry feet.

Before I even got a chance to try it Mr C decided his feet were dry and in need of some attention, he must of caught me on a good day as I happily obliged to giving his big old feet a good scrub!

To use it, you just dip it in some water and then scrub away. As I started to use it I was sceptical about it working on my feet, they are very dry compared to Mr Cs. His feet are only slightly dry and this worked well, you do have to keep it wet to make sure it works well. It does have a lovely orange scent to it which lingers on even after you have finished using the scrub.

I did ask Mr C to try it on my feet and as I suspected it wasn't enough to get rid of the dry skin but, I did use it with another product which I will blog about in another post and the two combined together worked like a dream! I would use this a lot in the summer though when my feet get hot and sticky, the scent is so nice and it left my feet feeling refreshed.

Lifestyle | Books to read

Thursday, 11 February 2016 | No comments

Hi!

One of my goals for this year it to try and read as much as possible. I've picked a few books off my shelf to prepare myself.

I usually always go for the funny, romantic, perfect life book but want to branch out and try and read a few other genres. These are the only 4 I have to read at the moment but after I have finished them I will be looking for something different, if you have any recommendations please let me know!

My first book is goodnight, beautiful by Dorothy Koomson. Having read her book, Marshmallows for breakfast and becoming completely engulfed in it I spent ages looking round car boot sales trying to find some more of her titles. I don't tend to buy books full price and much prefer searching in charity shops and the rickety car boot sale tables to find some bargains. I'm only two pages in so far but I will be back with an update once I've finished!

Style | Moss on the ground

Tuesday, 9 February 2016 | No comments

Hi!

It's been awhile since I last posted an outfit post hey! To be honest I was either in work clothes or my casual comfy stuff , nothing worth posting on the blog.

The last couple of weekends we have been out and about, once for a weekend in Nottingham which was delightful and then the other weekend was just running errands. I've found a new comfy casual go to outfit, I have a feeling its one of those that I will be wearing on repeat!

Scarf - Primark
Coatigan - Gap
Jeggings - Tu at Sainsburys
T-shirt - Gap
Shoes - Gap
Necklace - New Look

You can see in the pictures the reason behind my blog title, there is literally moss on the ground, blown down from the roof by the recent heavy winds! Anyway, I got this coatigan and t-shirt from Gap in the sales at the end of December. I had been wearing my favourite coatigan from New Look so much it was almost becoming a second layer of skin.

The outfit is nothing amazing and a step out of my comfort zone, I'm not usually a fan of black and white but I have been really enjoying wearing this. The jeggings are from Tu at Sainsburys, super comfortable and perfect for a long car journey. The only downside is that I wish I had got them in a smaller size, they have gone a bit baggy so bear that in mind if you do a purchase a pair. My shoes are also from Gap, I do have to wear them with foot tights as socks made them very uncomfortable, surprisingly my feet stayed really warm in them and didn't hurt even after 3 hours of walking around Nottingham town centre!

Beauty | Current Make Up Favourites

Saturday, 6 February 2016 | 2 comments

Hi!

Every Saturday in February I'm going to be doing collab posts with the lovely Lottie! Today is the first one and it's all about my current favourite make up items.

One of my goals for the year was to try and use up more of my make up. It's very easy when reading other blogs and watching YouTube videos to get caught up in the hype of the latest product and then ta da, there it is in my drawer!

I have been wearing a bit of make up every day since the beginning the of January and its going really well so far, how long it will last I don't know!

Of course I had to include my two absolute favourite products, the Nars concealer and the Anastasia Brow Wiz, these are definitely two products that lived up to my expectations. If you want your concealer and brows to stay in place all day I highly recommend both.

The dream matte mousse has been sat in my drawer for months, I decided to use it one Saturday to find out if there was a reason I hadn't been using it. It's on this post because I had forgotten how good it is! It gives really good coverage even after one layer, it doesn't feel heavy on the skin and lasts (almost) all day. You can get away using this without any concealer as well.

These two are my favourite lip combo at the moment, the Kiko lip marker is awful on its on own but add a nice red lipstick over the top and it works. The lipstick was a free sample from a magazine and it's a beautiful red colour. I always find it hard to pick out a really good red lipstick so I was slightly dubious when I first put this on, but, after munching on a sandwich and a snickers it was still there, a definite repurchase when this runs out.

This NYX butter gloss was part of a set that I got last year whilst on holiday. This colour is Tirumasu and it's looks quite pink here which made me initially think it would look awful on me, however a small amount gives a really nice nude look on my lips. I did try a thicker layer and well, frankly I looked ridiculous!

I've also been using the They're real mascara by Benefit. I tried this a couple of times before and dismissed it at first but after giving it another go I really like it now, it's subtle enough for the day but two or three coats gives some extra ommph for an evening look!

Those are all my favourites, do you have any recommendations? Don't forget to check out Lotties post too!

Much Love
