Style | Intu Spring/Summer 17 Event

Wednesday, 29 March 2017 | No comments

Last week I was kindly invited by intu Milton Keynes to their SS17 Staple Wardrobe event. As I'm writing this the sun is shining and daffodils are in full bloom, I'm going to try and soak as much of it in as I can until it rains again!

Once we had all arrived it was time to find out what our tasks were for the evening.

So, our first task was to head to Karen Millen to find our perfect white shirt. Now, unfortunately for me, they don't do plus sizes. If they did I would be poor, so maybe this isn't a bad thing! However, I did have a look at all the shirts to let you know which one I would recommend!

I chose the boxy shirt. For me it's the perfect shirt to wear with jeans, heels and a mini bag, or switch the heels out for some trainers and you have a more smart casual look. It would also be ideal for work, I would style it with a pinafore dress and statement necklace.

Our second task was to head to five retailers and select ten items which we think are key for SS17.

intus trend boards in the centre showcase their SS17 trends. My personal favourites are back to the 80s, all that metallic and denim is right up my street. I'm also definitely loving hit the white, I've got my eye on a few white dresses for the summer, just need to stock up on some Vanish now for all those ice cream stains!

I took inspiration from these and then headed out into the centre to see what I could find!

My first stop was of course my favourite shop in the intu MK, Gap. I spent a lot longer in here than I should have done, the temptation to buy stuff was so strong! But, I resisted and came away empty handed. That doesn't mean I won't be back once payday arrives!

Pink Bomber Jacket - £44.95

Eyelet embroidered bib top - £34.95

Ruffle Hem Top - £39.95

It definitely felt like a floral fest at Debenhams! This dress needs to be in my wardrobe, I'm already imagining teaming it with a blazer for work or some pretty pastel flats for pub garden drinks!

John Rocha Dress - £55 (This goes up to a size 24)

Head into Office if you want to combine the pink and athleisure trends, they have definitely got it right. These are my favourites especially the ribbon trainers! Be still my beating heart.

Converse All Star Lilac Mouse - £62.99

Fenty Ribbon Slider - £64.99

Puma R698 Pink Fenty Satin Trainers - £120

Karen Millen have definitely got you covered for any white staple items you want to add to your wardrobe. These brogue trainers are a great smart alternative to the casual trainer.

Team them with this pleated shirt and a pair of skinny jeans .

The Pleated Hem Shirt - £99

Of course my picks wouldn't be complete without a bag! Styled here for a wedding, I would team it with a black jacket, trousers, red heels and a white shirt, think 80s power dressing!

Lily Clutch - £35

For task three we had to head to two accessory retailers and find five killer accessories which will transform any outfit. Think gorgeous footwear, magpie worthy jewels and perfect bags for night and day.

So, this might have been the hardest task for me, if you read my blog regularly you will know how much I love jewellery and bags so, trying to take pictures without wanting to buy everything was extremely challenging! I feel a shopping day is needed soon, sorry to Mr C and my bank card in advance.

It's back to Karen Millen, their accessories range is absolutely stunning. There were a number of items that caught my eye but these were the ones I loved the most:

For jewellery my first stop is always Coast, from statement necklaces to beautiful bags they always have the perfect accessory.

Nia Hotfix Laser Cut Clutch - £45

Arta Earrings - £19

I hope that you feel inspired and ready for spring now! There was a fourth task but I will be putting that on a separate post.

Style | Spring, is that you?

Whilst we were visiting Birmingham for the Style XL awards I took advantage of the lovely weather and surroundings and asked Mr C to photograph all my outfits so, expect to see a few more posts!

I wore this on Sunday, we took a little wander around St Pauls Square which is where we were staying. The sun was shining and it felt like Spring so I was pleased that I took along my 'hurry up spring' outfit!

I bought this skirt from Tu at the end of January, it was a bit of a last minute "I need something to wear for a party" purchase but I'm so glad I got it. I know that I'm going to get lots of wear out of it during the spring/summer months.

Jumper - Old - New Look
Skirt - Tu - Sainsburys (Available in store)
Shoes - New Look (sale)
Bag - Tory Burch
Scarf - Old Primark

I had envisaged taking a long break from blogging as I had begun to feel quite jaded with the whole thing. There is always the thought in the back of my mind, am I good enough, does anyone actually read it? I knew as soon as I started thinking like this it was time to take a break, whether that was 1 day or 1 week, I knew I had to shut the laptop for a while.

The break didn't last for long, I think it's been around 2 weeks since I sat down and wrote anything but one lovely dress got me so excited I had to come back and share it all with you!

I bought this dress a few weeks ago, not online but in store for a change. I always forget that my local New Look has a curves section, it's small but it's there and, as you all know, they are far and few between.

I didn't even try this one on, I just had a good feeling about it when I saw so I took it straight to the tills, along with a denim shirt, neither of which I needed but I could not resist!

I'm wearing a 24 here and I would say it fits true to size. I've worn it a couple of times for work and I'm in love. It's so comfortable, fits well and is very versatile. I might do another post showing the different ways I am going to style it but for now I would highly recommend ordering this dress!
Oh and I don't normally go taking pictures in closed shopping centres, these were taken after an event and it was quiet so I asked Mr C to take a couple of pictures! They are a little grainy but I like that they are completely random and not quite perfect!

Beauty | Clinique Fresh Pressed System

Wednesday, 22 March 2017 | No comments

Last week I attended a Clinique event at Debenhams in MK intu. It was to find out more about their latest launch, the Clinique Fresh Pressed system. You can read more about it here. I have also previously attended some other events which you can read about here and here.

I've slowly been introducing Clinique products into my skincare regime, as I mentioned in previous posts I used to use lots of their products when I was younger, oh the days of living at home, no bills or housework, the only worry I had was where I was going to put all of my products!

I arrived nice and early at the event and was greeted by Suzie, this lovely lady is to blame for my recent purchases! If you live in the Milton Keynes area I would highly recommend going to the Clinique counter in Debenham, all of the consultants are so helpful, knowledgeable and friendly.

First of all Suzie introduced us to the products and explained how they worked. Now, I'm not going to write word for word everything about the Fresh Pressed System, instead I took some photos of the information booklet, which I'm going to share below, that will give an overview.

Next she explained how Vitamin C plays an important part in this product. A potent De-ager, Vitamin C will give you a brighter, more even tone and smoother texture. Used daily it will help with the skins renewal and help repair damage from the sun, breakouts and the environment.

Next, it was demonstration time. Earlier on in the evening Suzie asked one of us to be her model to demonstrate the product on and I said ok! Not something that I would normally do, especially as some of their best customers were there and I wasn't sure if they were ready to experience me without any make up on! I sat down and Suzie applied the fresh pressed powder onto my face, immediately it felt very cooling and refreshing on my face. She then wiped it off and also used the sonic brush, another new favourite item of mine, I'll be reviewing this soon. My skin felt really clean and slightly brighter, I really need to used it properly and for the correct amount of time to see a real difference. I did purchase the 7 day system to try at home so expect to see a proper review in the next few weeks.

I will be doing a proper review of the 7 day fresh pressed system so look out for that in the next few weeks! Apologies for the pictures, I have edited some of them but the lighting in Debenhams is not blogger friendly!

Style | Style XL Outfit

Last Sunday myself and Mr C went to Birmingham for the weekend for the Style XL awards. The lovely Leah from Leah XL organised the entire thing and it was wonderful. It really warms my heart when I see lots of plus size women together and celebrating! Things didn't go so smoothly beforehand though, I spent all morning feeling nervous and not wanting to go. Recently I've been struggling being in crowded places and talking to new (groups) people. I'm a lot better than I was but there are still times when I want to run and hide. A lot of this stems from being badly bullied by my all the girls (bar two) in my class at college, I may have forgiven but I can never forget, unfortunately the effects have been long lasting so, if I didn't come over and say hello, I wasn't being rude, just having a small confidence crisis!

Anyway, I've gone completely off subject! I wanted to do a quick post about what I wore that evening. There will be a few posts from Birmingham coming up, the weather was perfect and I was happy with all my outfits so, lucky Mr C got to snap them all!

I wanted to get something new to wear but didn't want to break the bank, so I had a quick browse on the ASOS sale page one night and saw two dresses - this dress and another one (which was also navy). The next day (Thursday) they arrived and I was worried as I had no back up if neither of these worked. So, I kept my fingers crossed for my trying on session that evening.

The first dress didn't fit, but this one did luckily! I rarely wear navy so it made a nice change. The detail really caught my eye though, it had all this gorgeous beading on the shoulders and then down the sides.

It felt super comfortable on, I'm not going to go into too much detail as the dress is no longer available. In terms of fit it was true to size (24) but unfortunately the same can't be said for the quality, part way through the evening I noticed that some of the beading had come off around the spilt and also the neckline had a 'raw' feeling to it which I felt let the overall appearance of the dress down.

For £27 in the sale I can't really complain too much though, I'm going to get my sewing box out and see what I can do with it so I can wear it again!
