Blue Pleats and an update

Thursday, 27 April 2017 | 1 comment

Back in February I wrote a post about how I wasn't going to make any resolutions this year, instead I was going to make a list of things that I would like to do over the year, if I achieve them great, if I didn't I'm not going to worry at all. The main thing was to start making a few small changes to my lifestyle and try and create a better work/life balance.

What do the pictures have to do with this? Well, I think they pretty much sum up how I feel at the moment. I've made a few changes with regards to handling my stress and they also remind me of a great weekend we had recently. Of course, I also wanted show this fab outfit I picked up on a late night trip to my favourite grocery store! Both items are from Sainsbury's in the sale, I absolutely adore them. The jumper is perfect for now, although it's sunny during the day sometimes the wind has been a bit chilly so a thin jumper is the answer for those days. I teamed it with this navy pleated skirt and I think they both went so well together.

So, my no resolutions, how are they going? Well here's a little update:

Travel - So far this year we've made it to Burford for my birthday which was amazing, I wrote a post all about which you can read here. In March we went to Birmingham for the Style XL Awards. I was nominated for most inspiring blogger, my first award nomination which I was super proud of. As we have two bank holidays in May I'm hoping that we get away for one of them. We've also got trips to Liverpool and Cambridge coming up and a yet to be booked holiday, someone nice and hot, later on in the year.

Relax - So this is something that I'm still working on. I've made a start by doing some yoga with Adriene on YouTube. I've done a couple before bedtime and I definitely felt the tension ease from my shoulders, so this is definitely one thing I'm going to keep working on. I've also been focusing on my breathing at work when I start getting stressed, I have to say this really does help, last week I felt so calm and only got stressed once.

Wedding - Nothing more to say on this really, still a 'work in progress'!

Move More - Mr C and I took my work dogs for a walk again which was fun as per usual. Even though we (ok, I) got dragged along and had to stop them from jumping up at everyone it was a fun walk, a nice break to the work day. Now that the weather is better I'm going to make sure that I get out for a lunchtime stroll, maybe not everyday but at least 2-3 times a week.

Style | Fashion Show MK

A couple of weeks I was kindly invited to the Fashion Show MK which was held at the beautiful Critchley Hall in Newport Pagnell.

There was a whole host of designers from mainstream to local such as Krisp Clothing, Wheel & Thread, Boutique Cholpon, Daisy & Co London, MadFX Clothing and James Virgo Bow Ties.

I arrived around 7.00pm, went inside and managed to get a few pictures of the venue, which is gorgeous (definitely a potential wedding venue) before it got too busy. There was a DJ and also live singing from the lovely Holly Bills, her voice was incredible and definitely had me swaying in my seat!

I feel like fashion shows are a good way to give me new and fresh inspiration for my wardrobe, I find it very easy to get stuck in my comfort zone and not try different colour combinations but, since the show, I have found myself steering away from my current blacks, grey and whites and looking for more pieces to add to my wardrobe for Spring!

So here are some of my favourite looks from the show, I didn't manage to get that many pictures but you can check out the GM Events Fashionshowmk Instagram for lots of fantastic shots from the show.

My favourite outfit from the show, I love the colour combination!

Half way through we had a short interval, a good chance to grab a drink and have a peek at some of stands from Krisp Clothing, Boutique Cholpon and Models Own. I didn't realise that Models Own also did make up, I tried this gorgeous deep red matte lipstick on, so on payday I'm going to pay a visit to the shop at Central MK to grab one.

So, a short and sweet post this time but don't forget to head over to Fashion Show MK Instagram to see all the looks and also visit their facebook page here.

Style | Random Denim

I saw the lovely Dani Vanier rocking the double denim look recently. I feel like it's one of those trends or looks that either works or it doesn't but she pulled it off with her usual effortless chic style.

I knew I wanted to give it a go when I bought a denim shirt from New Look recently. It was a really random purchase, I wasn't going shopping for anything (like I always do!) but ended up bringing this shirt and a dress home with me.

I ended up really liking how it looked with my jeggings so, after we went shopping, we stopped by home quickly, picked up the camera and went to my favourite spot to take a few pictures!

Still in love with these shoes!

Shirt - New Look (sale)
Tee - ASOS
Jeggings - New Look (sale)
Shoes - New Look (no longer available)
Bag - Tory Burch

What do you think of double denim?

Style | SS17 at intuMK - A visit to Rush Hair

Tuesday, 4 April 2017 | No comments

Last week I wrote about my evening with intu for their SS 17 event. You can read the post here. Tonight is all about my fourth task.

Rush hair is now situated in intu MK. I'm always keen to find hairdressers that can do afro hair, so this was an ideal opportunity to find out more and to also do my task!

As you walk in there is a wall full of products for every type of hair, a part of me wanted to pick up everything and be nosy but I resisted!

The salon is located upstairs. I had no idea what to expect so when I got to the last step I was pleasantly surprised!

How gorgeous is this salon, it's actually the nicest one I've ever been in. It's so neat, clean and had a luxurious feel to it. The salon is open late in the evenings as well so it's ideal for an after work cut or blow dry.

Anyway, back to the task. We had to chat to a member of the team about must have hair products which would keep our locks glossy and shiny all season.

For me it was recommended that I try a Brazilian blow dry as my main problem was frizzy hair, especially with the warmer weather on the way (yes, I'm optimistic), I only have go in the heat for a few seconds and my hair goes so frizzy!

If you haven't heard of a Brazilian blow dry then here is a short explanation! It is a treatment that uses Keratin to smooth the hair cuticle making the hair appear smooth, straight and frizz free! Hair is washed first of all and then once it has dried the treatment is applied to sections of the hair, dried and then heat sealed using straighteners. Depending on the length of your hair it can take between 1.5 - 3 hours to complete. It will last up to 3 months if you use the correct products to maintain it.

This was great to find an alternative treatment to relaxer, the main treatment used for afro hair.

Afterwards I headed downstairs to find out more about the products especially ones for my dry, fizzy hair.

The Kerastase range is one that I have heard so many good things about but I have never tried anything from it. They do a whole range of products for different hair types. As my hair is very dry, coarse and frizzy it was recommended that I try the discipline range, its specifically for unruly hair, which mine definitely is without a doubt! Now if I didn't go for the Brazilian blow dry I would use these products along with regular blow drys to keep my hair looking fabulous all summer long!

I also received a goodie bag (thank you to Rush MK) before I left. I'm going to give the mask and oil a try and then do a review on here very soon!

You can find your nearest Rush Salon here.

Lifestyle | Black, Nike and White

I went for something casual but smart and comfortable for the drive up to Birmingham as I knew we would be going out for lunch once we'd got there. I bought this blazer from New Look a few weeks ago specifically for work. I'm still not sure if it's smart enough so, for the moment, I'm keeping it for weekend use. I'm also wearing my oversized white tee from ASOS, jeggings from Sainsburys and the latest addition to my trainer collection. I always get mine from ASOS as they have really nice ones on sale.

Oh and it was perfect for travelling in, I slept for the entire journey!

Jacket - New Look
T-Shirt - ASOS
Scarf - Primark (old)
Jeggings - Tu - Sainsburys (old)
Trainers - Nike via ASOS
